Battery Collection Boxes & more

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Please help the environment by RE-CYCLING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.  Here are some ideas:

Put the following items into the GREEN BATTERY BOX in Stoke by Nayland church porch or Polstead Community Shop:

USED BATTERIES

(These are highly toxic and will be disposed of safely.)

OLD SPECTACLES. (These will be passed to a charity for use in countries where people can’t afford new specs.)

OLD HEARING AIDS & UNUSED BATTERIES. (These will be passed to OpenEar, a charity which takes hearing equipment to developing countries.)

OLD MOBILE PHONES & USED COMPUTER CARTRIDGES. (These can be sold to raise funds for local charities.)

SORRY BUT BLUE & GREEN BOTTLE TOPS CAN NO LONGER BE POSTED INTO THE BATTERY BOX BECOS THERE IS NO WAY TO GET THEM TO THEIR DESTINATION.  SO PUT THEM IN YOUR BLUE RECYCLING BIN.

 PLEASE SEE SEPARATE ENTRIES ABOUT:

- The Re-cycling Stable at Polstead where you can pass on your unwanted hand tools and equipment and also old bikes and bike parts.

- The School Book Project which will  make it easier for you to part with good quality books which are over-loading your shelves.

- The Perfect Blue Bin Poster which will remind you what goes into the Blue Bin and what to do with the residue - lots of useful advice about other outlets.

IF AFTER ALL THIS RESEARCH YOU ARE STILL  LEFT WITH THINGS YOU CANT RE-CYCLE, then take them to one of Babergh’s Household Waste Sites.  You can dispose of a huge range of goods including WEEE  (electrical and electronic goods)   all types of light bulbs, plastic bags  (YES) and tetra packs as well as rubble, green waste, engine oil, wood offcuts and various household goods - those that have any value will be put on sale on the site, so you might even pick up a bargain while you are doing your duty.

The Hadleigh site is in Crockett Way, Hadleigh IP7 6AH.  Off Lady Lane Industrial estate.

The Sudbury site is in Sandy Lane, Sudbury CO10 7HG off Ballingdon Hill.

Both sites open at 8 am till 4 pm. - and later in spring and summer.

Open EVERY DAY except for 25/26 December and 1st January - so you will have to postpone your new year resolution clear out till the following day.

CHEMICAL PRODUCTS, INCLUDING PAINT, CANNOT BE LEFT AT THE HOUSEHOLD SITES  but you can arrange a FREE collection service by phoning  0845 6066045.
